Been 14 Years, But A Dream’s Coming True!”

Curt was a star basketball player in high school. He was so good that he was a Division 1 prospect.

But Curt was not a great student and — like many of us — didn’t really care that much about school. He just wanted to play ball!

While he did graduate from his high school, he never made it to college. Curt got arrested and spend a lot of time in lock-up, including prison.

He came to Helping Up Mission after prison and he was ready for a change. When he joined our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program, he committed himself to simply do the things we suggested.

It’s been working! His thinking has really done an overhaul and he began to dream and believe again.

At the point in our Program when he could either go to work or college, Curt decided he wanted to go to college — and still wanted to try and play basketball!

He enrolled in a local junior college. They have a very good basketball team and Curt contacted the coach and asked about playing.

This past weekend the team had a “get acquainted” event for new guys. Curt went.

I asked about it on Monday and he said he felt real good about the scrimmage games he played. The coach also Curt him the next day.

He said they saw his skills, there was a place for him on their team and that he would definitely be playing! It’s been 14 years — Curt’s older and wiser…and focused and committed…and playing college ball!

How Sweet It Is!
