Proverb for the Day 1:30-31 — Okay, If You Don’t Want To Listen…

30 Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, 31 they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.

This is Lady Wisdom speaking to those who haven’t listened…yet! In these two verses she offers a general assessment of how things will be (:31) — because of how they have been (:30)!
She said, “They would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke.” Apparently, in each case, these folks made a conscious deliberate decision to reject what Wisdom had to offer.
The context for her words are pretty clear. Wisdom’s been out there trying hard to get our attention (:20-21).

She says she knows some things that could really help us (:23). Admittedly, if that’s true, it would be pretty stupid to pay no attention (:24-25).

So, she says here, “They will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.” If we’re just not going to listen, we’ll just have to live with the consequences of our choices!

“Eat…and be filled” with “the fruit of their ways…and the fruit of their schemes.” That’s the last thing any of us need! I know what my best thinking has gotten me over the years!

BUT…this is all conditional. If I decide to start listening and paying attention to some good advice, things can really be change for me.

Wisdom doesn’t decide what happens to me — I do! And it’s a one day at a time decision!
