Again this year, Bart Scott sponsored a special Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner for all the guys here at Helping Up Mission. Since moving to New York, for the second straight year, Bart got Ray Rice to stand in for him – although Ray did get Bart on the phone and he was able to give a shout out to all from New York. it is really a special thing for us to have Bart Scott continue to consider our guys every year at Thanksgiving time.
Ray Rice also brought some Ravens buddies with him – Cornerbacks Fabian Washington and Cary Williams along with Safety Dawan Landry and Wide Receiver David Reed. I actually complained that the defense didn’t show up at Helping Up Mission last week (see my blog of 11/23/10), but they sure represented this night. Also, joining them to serve dinner was Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. The Mayor and Ray Rice did a photo shoot for one of those “got milk” commercials upstairs in one of our classrooms, which I can’t wait to see.
We appreciate all the support we receive here at Helping Up Mission from our community. While everyone knows when the celebrities come, the fact is that every single day of the year some wonderful people come down here to invest their time, energy and resources in the men living on our campus. We are so very thankful for everyone of them. While their names may not appear in the media or on my blogs, God has taken note. And, let’s face it, His is the only one that really counts! Thanks to all of you and I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
