Prayer Support

We believe God answers prayer. Jon in our Development Office, Intern David and Chaplain’s Assistant Mark have been coordinating prayer support with some of our friends out there in the community. Here is something Jon recently wrote on the subject.

God’s Word teaches us to “pray without ceasing” (1Thes 5:17), that “the fervent prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” (James 5:16), and to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and keep on praying for all the saints.” (Eph 6:18).

In fact, prayer is mentioned 540 times in the King James Version of the Bible. This is not an insignificant number. Prayer is something Christians are called to do. Keeping this instruction, Pastor Gary passes a Prayer Request sheet around during each Spiritual Life class so men can write their prayer requests down. Then they pray collectively for those prayers. The men also pray for the needs of supporters and other prayer needs that are communicated to us at HUM. But it doesn’t end there…

Helping Up Mission has developed a Prayer Partner program to connect supporters more directly with the men in the program. Each week the men’s prayer requests are transcribed along with any updates and Praise Reports. They are then emailed to prayer partners at the end of that week or first thing the following Monday. Prayer Partners simply pray for the men’s needs represented on the list.

The great thing is prayer does not depend on geography. God hears prayers wherever you are. If you’d like to connect in a meaningful way with HUM, the Prayer Partner Program is a wonderful way to do it. It’s as close as your computer. Just send us an email telling us you’d like to receive the Weekly Prayer Requests and we’ll email them to you each week so you can lift the men up in prayer. The email address appears below. We want to thank some supporters who were a great help in getting the Prayer Partner Program off the ground. Thank you to Linda and Don Hipple, Roberta Laynor, and the Oak Crest Village folks Jim Truitt and Alison Krull. You folks really helped to get the program running successfully very quickly.

We’re grateful for the time folks invest coming to the Mission and volunteering, and for the supporters who are able to financially support the work we do here. We absolutely need you to remain faithful in that support. Please keep it up! But, if you can also find time to pray, it would help so much. And for the folks that aren’t in a position to physically come down to volunteer, or aren’t in a position to help financially, you can support the transformation of men’s lives here through undergirding and intercessory prayer. If you’d like to receive the Weekly Prayer Requests, please email us at: jmiller@helpingup.org. Thank you so much.

So, if you would like to pray with us about things that are happening in the lives of guys here or would like for us to pray about something in your life, just contact Jon at the email address above.

One prayer at a time,
Pastor Gary Byers
