Old guy Mike’s life was not perfect when growing up, but there was every reason to believe he had a bright future. Yet tragedy hit his family and crushed his heart.
In times like this, we either turn to God for help or just wander around in hopelessness. God can keep that future bright but, in hopelessness, Mike turned to chemicals. He tried to fill his inner void – marriage, career, kids – but it didn’t help. This is pain and a void only God can fill.
Then there was criminal activity and incarceration. But that was a guy Mike didn’t want to be and, to his credit, he kept trying.
Happily, Mike found answers at Helping Up Mission. God is making a big difference in his life on the inside. Mike knows it will be one day at a time for the rest of his life, and is up for the challenge.
Mike graduated from HUM in March but stayed on as a graduate intern. Last month, he joined our program staff. Today Mike’s excited to be passing it on to others who need it like he did.
