Roy, OGS & “Me!”

The guys in our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program have daily responsibilities to run everything on our campus. One of those duties is to serve the men who come off the streets and join us each evening as part of our Overnight Guest Services (OGS). Our guys take it seriously – after all, they were at this point just a few months ago, themselves.

Chuck has been here about 6 months and works with our Overnight Guests. Yesterday he came to me very excited and shared a poem that Roy, one of our Guests, had written. Chuck plans to read it at our next HUM Poetry Reading Night meeting in a couple of weeks.

Its a joy to see Chuck so fired up. It is also very meaningful to read Roy’s words of gratitude to God and HUM for what is happening in his life.

Me

With a child’s eye this world I’ve seen,
some good, some bad, some happy,
some ever so sad.

Then, as in this world I grew older,
every sin I did seemed to make me bolder.

Then, as everything I had went away,
once again to the LORD I prayed.

And He sent to me a helping hand,
in the one best Missions in any land.

All I now have to say is thank you LORD,
May we all come your way.

This is why we do what we do – and thank you for helping us do it!
