Thanksgiving 2013: HUM, Ravens & NBC!

A saying around Helping Up Mission goes like this. One guy says, “God is good, all the time!” To which others will reply, “All the time, God is good!”

At HUM, we know first-hand this is more than just a cleaver phrase – among the 500 men on our campus, it is a reality seen and experienced here daily. Yesterday was a wonderful example.

The Thanksgiving season is always a special time at HUM when so many wonderful people and organizations take the time to specially recognize the guys here, one way or another. Yesterday dozens of friends came and served a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner to any and all who wanted to eat with us. There was plenty of good food and great company all over our campus throughout the day.

Then, to top off Thanksgiving 2013, the Ravens beat the Pittsburg Steelers in the nationally televised NFL Thanksgiving Day night game. And to make it even better, we got to see clips of the Ravens at HUM during the broadcast.

The Orioles and Ravens have become wonderful friends of HUM and frequently visit our campus. When they do, we have a policy of not bum-rushing them for autographs. That has become a problem for professional athletes – people get their autographs and then sell them on e-Bay!

So we decided that we would turn the tables and give the athletes our autographs instead – look closely at the aprons these Ravens are wearing when they joined Bart Scott here last week:

The guys of Helping Up Mission signed these aprons as our gift to them for coming and sharing with us. How many people do you know who have given their autograph to a professional athlete!

It’s been a great Thanksgiving, but…

God is good, all the time!
