Home Sweet Home!

In class every Monday, we always start by sharing some good things that happened in our lives over the weekend. Yesterday both Jimmy and Chuck talked about being at home with their respective families.

Both guys have been part of our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program for about 5 months. Both have struggled some 20 years with their addiction and came here pretty desperate.

In each case, they had supportive families who continued to love them through those tough times. But they also knew how to do “tough love,” too.

And, while continuing to use, both Jimmy and Chuck appreciated and respected their families enough to not steal from them. They also tried to not be out of control in their presence.

After arriving at HUM each guy experienced a real spiritual awakening. Of course, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination – both find themselves today different on the inside (attitudes), as well as the outside (actions).

So this weekend at home for each was pretty sweet. Jimmy and Chuck are feeling good about themselves again. And the true appreciation from their loved ones for “this new guy who showed up” was also very affirming. How sweet it is!
