Jack’s an old guy and an alcoholic – and he just graduated from our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program at Helping Up Mission! A widower, his wife’s passing drove him deep into the bottle in recent years.
When Jack got to HUM he didn’t have any other real options. Angry, bitter, in ill health and without hope, he struggled settling in here. But Jack persevered and slowly things began to come together for him.
Near graduation time, Jack’s disability claim was accepted and he will begin to receive a monthly disability check. Somehow he learned how to turn on a computer(!) and on Facebook found a lady (in another state) he was very serious about in high school (in another state) decades ago. Turns out she’s been looking for him, too!
Don’t know what’s going to happen, but I do know Jack feels so much better than he did a year ago. For the first time in a long time he has some hope for the future. He also has the tools to keep this thing going right for the rest of his life…
