Greg was here in our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program in 2011, and did okay with recovery for about 6 months. But he just never felt the vigilance and urgency of doing the next right thing and eventually relapsed.
Now, late in his 30’s, Greg started to get a bit more serious about doing the work of recovery and particularly adding the spiritual component. So he swallowed his pride and came back to Helping Up Mission. Greg decided he would also start taking suggestions from others.
And this time things were different! He was more focused and stayed the course. When he got to the 6-month point of the program again, Greg went to work and took his spiritual recovery with him.
I haven’t seen him for months, but ran into Greg this morning. Now a graduate and living on campus in our transitional housing, he told me about his job – been there about a year now. He’s also been clean 18 months!
I admit – 18 months, gainfully employed and clean – I couldn’t believe it! Congrats, Greg! It really does work…if you work it!
