Got To Give It Away To Keep it!

Jack spend years in addiction and finally showed up at Helping Up Mission – in 1999! It was my first year as Spiritual Life Director and I remember he was serious about getting this recovery thing right.

He graduated from our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program the next year but didn’t have a good place to go. Jack stayed on here in graduate transitional housing for almost 6 more years.

Although he moved out from HUM 7 years ago, Jack regularly stops by. He’s been clean now 14 years. Today he works at one of the local hospitals, while also keeping a couple of side businesses going, as well.

Jack brought his cousin here 2 years ago and although he left early and didn’t graduate, he has also continued in his sobriety – today he works for Jack. Tomorrow Jack is bringing his brother here. From out of state, he has struggled with addiction for years, as well.

The 12th Step teaches the Biblical directive that we are to pass along to others what is working for us. That’s what Jack keeps doing – and it keeps on working for him…and for others!
