He Wasn’t Excited, Pleased Or Even Glad To Be Here!

When Peter arrived at Helping Up Mission 51 weeks ago, he was really struggling. His addiction made it impossible to keep a job or have any kind of meaningful relationship with his family.

A bright, capable young guy, Peter wasn’t excited, pleased or even glad to be here – he just didn’t have any other options. And we were okay with that!

So Peter joined our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program and started “following suggestions.” He began to calm down and settled in.

After getting off his initial restriction period, Peter finally contacted family and told them what was going on. They were very happy to see all the changes he was making!

When Peter was eligible to begin going back out to work in the community, he did. Consequently, I haven’t seen him for months, and in fact, forgot he was even here.

But I ran into him last week as he was heading out to work. Peter got a good job back in his field of expertise, but his was a difficult commute. Then family got him a car so he could get to and from more easily. Peter graduates from our program next week.

He’s feeling good about himself again, and he’s appreciative of all he has. His future is bright and he’s looking forward to it. Peter also knows full well how it will work…
