Oh Yeah, We Remember Him!

Dave spent 30 years struggling with alcohol and at age 50 joined our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program in 2011. He’d managed to throw away a good career and felt little hope of any decent prospects in the near future.

After settling in here, Dave focused on doing what we asked him to do and began feeling better about himself. It had been a few years since he felt like that and, before long, he really got inspired.

So, at 51 years of age, Dave decided he wanted to go to college for the first time in his life. He graduated from our program in 2012 and completed his college degree program and took a job in his new field this year.

Last week, our Work Force Development Coordinator visited a very large new prospective employer for our Helping Up Mission guys. He told them Dave’s story as an example of what happens in the lives of guys here and happened to mention Dave by name.

The two managers in this company recognized the name – this was one of the career jobs he lost a few years back! Both agreed he was a great worker when he wasn’t drinking, but he just couldn’t stop drinking.

They were so excited to hear all that has happened in Dave’s life the past 3 years. They also want to hire some “Dave-kind of guys” for their operation!
