Oh, No…Where’s My Wallet?

Keith’s been in our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program here at Helping Up Mission for almost 6 months now. In his 50’s and of another faith, He’s simply embraced the spiritual principles we teach here and is finding an inner empowerment he’s never known before.

He shared about his attitude toward others in class last week. Keith rode the local bus to and from an appointment and returned here. Upon arrival Keith realized he’d lost his wallet!

Since he’s in our long-term program, there was no money in his wallet…but there was his ID and other personal documents and papers that were important, meaningful and a hassle to get replaced.

Keith was upset with himself and didn’t know what to do, so he decided to just talk about it. He spoke to some of his “accountability partners” here at HUM and got some good support and advice.

He was told to contact the MTA and ask if they might know something. He called and they told him they had his wallet! When he got it back, everything was there – nothing was missing!

Keith remembered what he used to do when he found a wallet – take the money and throw away the rest. His had no money, just his personal papers and docs. But whoever found it just turned it in!

This little incident, he said, restored his faith in humanity. It also told him how far he had grown and gave him some new insights about how to live in the future.

Spiritual recovery really does work…if you work it!
