Crying Larry!

Larry, 50, had a 15-year addiction that’s wreaked havoc on his life, career and relationships. He wasn’t a happy addict and didn’t like the man he’d become.

So when he arrived at Helping Up Mission and joined our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program, Larry was really tired and knew he needed to do something different and long-term!

So he jumped right in to working on his recovery. After class Friday, Larry stopped to talk with me about what’s been going on.

It’s been six weeks now and he’s genuinely excited about so many things that are happening in his life these days. One is the chance to earn his high school diploma while here this year.

Larry has a wonderful smile – that he flashes a lot these days – but he also needs a lot of dental work. He’s very pleased that he should be able to get that done while here, too.

But, beyond doing a lot of smiling, Larry’s also been crying a lot lately, too – he was teared up through most of our talk! He’s very grateful, his heart has really softened up and he cares about things he hasn’t cared about before.

Now off our initial blackout period, Larry went to spend some time with his 24-year old daughter and his 1-and 4-year old granddaughters. It was so different from the life he had been living and Larry had so much fun with them.

Talking and listening to Larry inspired me! I even got a little teary-eyed, myself!
