4 HUM Guys + Lunch = Hope, Answers, Empowerment!

I recently spoke in a church and we had a great service. Four guys from Helping Up Mission also joined us.

At the end of the service I spent time praying with a number of people, including a guy who’s been struggling with some personal issues. He decided to join us five HUM guys for lunch.

We had a great time together around the table. All four HUM guys shared their stories…and I learned some things I didn’t know about each of them!

All good guys — each told about having a real spiritual encounter with God at an earlier time in his life. Three of them even had some ministry experience.

But all, as believers with some good recovery time, struggled again with their addiction — heroin, cocaine and alcohol. God sent each one to our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program between 60 days and 2 years ago!

After lunch, our guest was so appreciative of all he’d heard. While his issues were different, just knowing that other men of faith also struggle with such things, gave him a shot of hope.

Their honest and open sharing of their own stories gave him some insights and answers for his own situation. The light bulb went on — he, too, could experience such empowerment!

None of us know what’s going to happen in the future — we’re all still in process. But we do know Who can make the difference.

Hopefully our new friend also found some new tools for his own kit — hope, answers and empowerment for his everyday spiritual walk!
