HS Diploma?…Check!

Danny’s spiritual recovery is working! Thirty-five years old, he’s struggled with alcohol and marijuana for years and it’s consistently managed to keep him from being the man he knows he’s supposed to be — and wants to be!

This is his second time here in our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program at Helping Up Mission. He left the first time before graduation doing good recovery and having a good job.

Danny went back home to live with and support his mother who was also raising Danny’s 9-year old son. Good intentions…but work schedule and other responsibilities soon crowded out his personal recovery commitments.

When he returned this time, Danny was ready to do things different. He’s made himself more accountable and has also committed himself to stay and finish his 1-year Program.

It’s been almost 8 months and, yesterday, Danny stopped by my classroom to tell me its official – now his high school diploma! While he’d worked toward it last time he was here, he didn’t get finished before he left.

This time he wanted to take it to completion. Danny knows it will be good for his career, but he also wanted to get it done in order to set a good example for his son!

When a man embarks on his spiritual recovery journey, it means so much more that simply stopping his chemical addiction. Real spiritual recovery changes lives – and when a life is changed, a family is, too!

It works if we work it!
