Albert the Artist!

This is Albert’s third time at Helping Up Mission for our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program. He’s now entering the Program’s fourth and final phase…this is twice as long as his first two times here combined — and doubled!

At 47, today’s Al is a lot different than the first two! He arrived, this time, a man ready to make some changes. We could see a new focus and diligence in his daily attitude and activity around campus.

A gifted artist, Albert’s had lots of job — but none of them meaningful to him or a place where he was using his God-given talents. So, while at HUM this time, he decided to go to college.

There was something Albert always wanted to do with his skills — fashion design! He got a grant and is enrolled in that program this fall.

He also got a full-time job and is feeling pretty good about himself again. In fact, Albert got to feeling so good that — with everything all lined up — he considered leaving here and getting his own place, again!

But, listening to the Narcotics Anonymous Just for Today daily devotional thought this morning, Albert got a clear message. None of us have it all figured out and we all need to stay connected.

So, Albert’s sitting still. He’ll continue living here, working and staying accountable. He’ll stay the course and do likewise with college this fall.

God willing, he’ll graduate from HUM next January and will be able to continue his education while still living here on campus in graduate transitional housing.

It works…if we work it!
