Momma…After 20 Years!

Donny and his mother both had an addiction problem and, in their addictions, didn’t get along very well. So one day Donny said, “See ya” to mom– and that was 20 years ago!

While he often wondered about her, his addiction and jail time kept Donny preoccupied. After all this time, he assumed she’d probably died.
Sort of a “Lone Ranger” in life, himself, Donny came to HUM for our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program almost 3 months ago. He settled in pretty well and started working on his recovery and support network.
He went back to some 12 Step meetings in the city he’d attended in the past. A guy from his past said Donny’s grandmother had called him — trying to locate Donny.
So Donny contacted his father’s mother and, turns out, Donny’s mom wasn’t dead! She’d continued to have some contact with her mother-in-law — but Donny didn’t know because he wasn’t in touch with anyone!
Turns out mom wanted to find Donny and grandma put out the word. So, last weekend Donny saw his mother for the first time in 20 years! In fact they spent the whole weekend together.

He said it felt really good! Who knows…they might even like each other!
