He loves the job God’s given him and also appreciating the restored relationship with loved ones. Kevin’s genuinely excited and grateful today about the ways God has worked in his life and directed his steps.
So yesterday he came into my classroom to tell me how God’s orchestrated his next step. Kevin had an unplanned “divine appointment” with a man who showed up at Helping Up Mission to celebrate another HUM guy’s graduation.
This man has a recovery half-way house in the community with which Kevin was familiar. After a good conversation, now-employed grad Kevin was accepted into this house — where another HUM grad also presently resides.
He moved out last weekend, but still stops by regularly. Kevin said he gets “HUM-sick” and needs to “come home now and then!”
The inside spiritual transformation in Kevin’s life has been remarkable. But the outside changes are pretty cool, too!
Fifty-four weeks ago Kevin arrived here jobless, homeless and miserable in his addiction. After settling in, he first earned his high school diploma, then got a good job he really likes and now has moved into his own place.
And he’s also not forgotten whence he came! Wouldn’t it be great if recovery was this simple for everyone?!?!
Actually it is!

Pastor Gary Byers
