God’s Masterpiece

In my last blog, I wrote about the cards William created for me.  While really well done, they were a rush job that he did in a moment’s notice off the top of his head.  He would probably not consider either of them to be a masterpiece, although I would.

William is truly gifted and has a number of pieces displayed on our campus, as well as in the HUM Art Display at Susquehanna Bank.  Matted, framed and probably even planned out in his head before he began, they are pieces anyone would appreciate having.  Whether William would say so or not, they are masterpieces.

In Ephesians 2:10, the Apostle Paul wrote that “we are His workmanship.” The New Testament was originally written in the Greek language and the Greek word translated “workmanship” is poiama.  Our English word “poem” comes from this word and some have rightfully translated it as “masterpiece.”

The Bible says we are saved through the grace God extended to us (Eph 2:8-9) and now we are His “masterpiece” (2:10).  Even with all my hurts, habits and hang-ups He considers me to be a beautifully composed poetic masterpiece (2:10).  And it doesn’t matter what someone else might think of me, this is who I really am!

PS  A trip through our campus will reveal that William is not the only artist we have around here.  In fact, our present group of artists-in-residence, whose work is being shown in the HUM Art Display at Susquehanna Bank in Hunt Valley, will be recognized at a reception there on Monday.
