Sit Still, M!

Marcus came to Helping Up Mission a bundle of energy with lots of inner turmoil. Our staff wasn’t sure he was ready to do our program or that he was even a good fit for what we do here. He could hardly sit still and was what my wife oftens says about me — “high maintenance!”

That’s probably why Marcus was so annoying to me. He couldn’t sit still in class – arrive late, get up and go out, maybe come back in – just to get up and go out again! It was obvious he didn’t want to be there.

So M’s struggling with his attitude and I’m struggling with mine! Then one day he comes up to me and tells me abut his troubles — both inside and outside of HUM. What he described was difficult, but not insurmoundable. It did help me to understand him better. We prayed together and I sent him on his way.

Marcus stayed, settled in, now in his second semester at college and just graduated our 12-month Spiritual Recovery Program! I don’t know who is more amazed at this turn of events – him or me. He always credits that prayer with being a game-changer for him. But, I have to be honest, that prayer changed more than Marcus!
