Monday, Monday…So Good To Me!

Talking to a twentysomething today, I realized he had no idea about the title to this blog! It’s the title to The Mamas & the Papas 1966 only #1 hit song on the US Billboard Hot 100 list.

Whatever The M&P’s were thinking about Mondays, in my classes here at Helping Up Mission Monday’s are a pretty cool time. We always start with guys sharing some of the good things that happened to them over the weekend. It’s a positive experience for them to share and it’s encouraging and a good reminder to others, as well.

This Monday was pretty meaningful, as usual. Taylor started by noting he received his AA 90-day clean chip over the weekend. I asked him how long it’s been since he had 90 days clean and he said 20 years – when he first started drinking!

Antonio said he spend Saturday with his 7 grandchildren – all teenagers! He really enjoyed being with them and he said they communicated how much they enjoyed the time with him. I asked A when was the last time they were all together like this and he said,” I haven’t been in any of their lives for 10 years!”

Stan went home for his first weekend with his mom and dad. He had a great time and spent lots of time outdoors riding his dirt bike. I asked if it was hard coming back to HUM on Sunday evening. Stan replied, “I know it sounds kind of weird, but by Sunday afternoon I started thinking about my friends at HUM and wanted to know how everyone was doing.” “This is my home right now,” he said, “and it is a good, safe place for me to be.”
