Grew Up in a Group Home, Grown Up at HUM!

Robby is now in his last few months of our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program for men who struggle with drugs and alcohol. It took him 20 years to get here.

As a young child, he was taken out of an alcoholic family and placed in a group home. Life didn’t get too much better for Robby – he spent a couple of his late teen years incarcerated.

Then, as an adult, Robby turned to alcohol to help him handle life better! We know where this story is going…

Never settling in a career field, Robby also never reached his potential wherever he worked. He did get married and had 3 wonderful kids, but his appreciation of alcohol kept him from being the father and husband he was supposed to be. Eventually Robby lost them all and wound up at HUM.

Amazingly, while incarcerated years ago Robby had a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ. He did virtually nothing to develop that relationship further, but it was real for him – and Robby never forgot it!

So when he joined us here, he was finally ready to deal with his issues. Robby’s attitudes and focus have been transformed. A quiet guy, he is actively engaged every day in making a difference in the lives of other guys here, too.

Finishing his one year in our 12-month Spiritual Recovery Program this spring, Robby is planning to start his first semester of college, too. In fact, this Jesus stuff is so meaningful to him today, he’s going to Bible college!
