“19 Months Ago I Was At The Lowest Point In My Life…”

This week, Spiritual Life Director Mike Rallo and I received this email. Thought you might appreciate it, too:

Hello Gentlemen,

My name is J…  I am a graduate of the spiritual recovery program at the Helping Up Mission.  I was in the HUM’s program up until about 3 weeks ago.  I self discharged and moved into a one bedroom apartment in Baltimore city.

I am still employed at … as a Food Production Manager.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my work experience so far and have even had the chance to hire several men from the HUM.

I’m writing you both to rectify the one thing that I wish I could have done differently before I discharged from the HUM.  I never took the opportunity to thank you for the guidance, support and encouragement you provided me along my journey at the HUM.  You both have made a profound impact on my mind, body and spirit; and for that I thank you.

My life has changed in such an amazingly positive way.  Nineteen months ago I was at the lowest point in my life and I was ready for my life to be over.  Today I am a productive member of society, I am a loving member of my family and I am a man of faith with an appreciation for the God of my understanding.

What happened to J is happening to so many guys at HUM. Its exciting just being here and seeing all God is doing. I love my job!

One Guy at a Time,
Pastor Gary Byers
