Mark’s been here for 6 months. In his late 30’s he’s struggled with addictions for 2 decades.
Sort of a wise guy, Mark always has a comment in class about everything! Sometimes he offers good insights and sometimes it’s just wise cracks.
I never imagined Mark would stay in our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program this long. In fact, there were days I hoped he would just go away!
So this morning I saw him leaving the campus and asked what’s up. He’s heading to college where he has enrolled in a nursing program.
I was shocked. “Mark, I’m surprised you’re still here, let alone going to college. And the field of nursing is hard for me to comprehend.”
“I’m surprised I’m still here, too,” he replied. “I always wanted to do something like this but never could get around to it when I was getting high. Now that I’m clean and focused, I want to do it and believe I can.”
Thinking about it now, myself, I believe he can do it, too. It’s amazing what happens in the lives of people when they get clean and focused. Spiritual recovery really does work!
