Terry’s a 50-something, came to Helping Up Mission 7 months ago with a drug problem. Chemicals had always kept him from having the kind of life he really wanted – which included relationships, career and a spiritual walk.
Of course, some will say, “Well, Terry, just stop it!” He tried! But Terry realized he was powerless.
So he joined our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program and immediately started developing his spiritual walk. That started to change everything!
Now Terry had a new focus on relationships and careers. And, as he was going through our program, he knew that meant just meant sit still for a while.
But, yesterday he asked if we could talk. He’s started to struggle a bit with sitting still in both areas, but he really wants to do the right thing.
As we talked, Terry decided he probably should stay the course. He also wants to take a good look at going to college – something he’s considered for quite a while.
It just so happened that a member of one of the professional sports team in our area was at HUM tutoring guys in math – at that very moment!
I asked Terry how his math skills were and he said “pretty rusty.” I asked if he might want to join the group and he said yes!
They spent over two hours doing math together. Terry was all smiles.
Believe it or not, the two of them got together again today. I just now left them and they’re coming up on two hours again today!
I just love it when a plan comes together!
