Two weeks ago, I shared Brandon’s story (“Chef Pants” on October 28). He’s since told me that his aren’t real chef pants, yet – just apprentice pants! But they look pretty official to me!
So, last week Brandon stopped by my classroom and quietly shared with me the letter he’d just received from the culinary school which he attends.
Brandon was the student chosen to receive the school’s singular scholarship award this year. They wrote that they “were impressed with your story and commitment to turning your life around and your passion for culinary arts.”
Of course, I had him read it to the whole class – the newest guys in our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program – and then tell them his story. He inspired them to aspire to consider some big things for their lives, too.
This is why I come to work every day. Man, I love my job!
