Proverb for the Day 23:22 — Old Dad & Old Mom!

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
This wise saying is apparently directed to us who are already adults. It references our mother “when she is old.” We’re told here to “listen to your father” and to “not despise your mother.”
The fact that God considered it important to tell us to do these things when we’re adults suggests we might just need the reminder!

For me, I feel very blessed that I still have my mother and father alive, together, living nearby, and both 89 years old!

I know some guys who’d consider cutting off body parts if they could just see and talk with their parents again! So I know this is a special privilege I have…and I don’t want to take it for granted.

So, I wish I could tell you that I don’t need this verse — but it is an appropriate message for me! I very much love both my parents.

Yet, I acknowledge that I frequently get caught up in my daily responsibilities and, consequently, don’t give them the time, focus or respect they deserve.

The words of this wise saying are important to help me keep perspective. Love you, mom and dad!

I’ll also admit — now 63, myself, — I’m appreciating this verse more and more every day!
