As father speaks to son throughout Proverbs, he regularly portrays wisdom as a woman. Its wisdom speaking here in these verses (:1, 12) — presumably Lady Wisdom, along with her regular sidekick, Understanding.
She says she was there “when the world came to be” — at Creation — also with God “at the very beginning.” While the verses don’t specifically say so, I’ll suggest He had Wisdom there on location for a purpose — presumably as part of the Creation process.
This whole chapter is actually Lady Wisdom speaking to all mankind (:4) and she makes a strong case that we should really pay attention to her (see :4-11). Possibly her greatest argument — which includes our verses — is the fact that she was present at Creation (:22-31).
If Wisdom was there — even participating in the Creation process — she has great insight into the whole universe. So, maybe, she could even help us with some of our struggles.
In fact — whatever problem we’re wrestling with — Wisdom has some valuable insights that could really make a difference for us. She’s been around a time and she knows some stuff!
She’s willing — and can — help a brother or sister out!
