Proverb for the Day 2:20 — Where We’re Walking…Who We’re Walking With!

Thus you will walk in the ways of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous.

This verse discusses those hanging out with Wisdom — ones who have been delivered from the clutches of wicked men (:12-15) and immoral women (:16-19)! Here they’re hanging with a different crowd.

“Thus you will walk in the ways of good men and keep to the paths of the righteous.” Being in the presence of “good men (and women!) and…the righteous” is a pretty good place to be.

“Walking in the ways of…and keep to the paths of” seems to suggest an ongoing one-day-at-a-time situation. In recovery this is often referred to as just doing the next right thing.

It’s a process and takes time! And the advice of this verse seemingly relates to Psalms 1:1 — who we hang with from the positive side!

Here, at Helping Up Mission, guys often join our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program with no intention of staying the full year. When they arrive, they’re just worn out, often of ill health and are just looking for some relief — not any kind of transformation!

We accept all as they are and simply try to help each one get and feel better. BECAUSE…we know that, if a guy stays a while, he’ll begin experiencing the benefits of walking with good people.

And, at that point, many guys really buy into the process. In fact, God begins making them one of the “good men” and “the righteous” that others want to hang with, too!
