No-ID VA-Eddy!

Ran into Edward the other day here on campus. This is his third time at Helping Up Mission.

A local guy, he’d been here twice for our 12-month residential Spiritual Recovery Program. While he knew he needed help with his addiction, Edward just wasn’t ready to put in the work to get it done!

This time, Edward came to HUM via the VA. A veteran, they’ve been helping him get back on his feet, and by virtue of the Veteran’s Administration’s relationship with us, they sent Edward here.

When we talked the other day, he’d already been here 2 months and Edward was feeling pretty good about life again. He said, at the point he arrived at HUM, he had no job, lost everything, was homeless and didn’t even have his ID anymore.

But that’s when he had a bit of a spiritual awakening — a moment of clarity! Edward decided it was time to start doing things differently and made a conscious spiritual choice to do so.

Now, 2 months later, his life felt miraculous! He showed me his new ID and told me about his new job and upcoming housing placement.

The new Edward also plans on giving back. When he gets settled in his new home he wants to begin serving in church and get involved in a 12 Step home group.

Edward has a heart to help other guys get jobs, too. He told me he doesn’t want to add any more negativity to the world — especially here in Baltimore! He’s ready to offer something positive.

I was really happy to see him and I know Edward can continue experiencing all this…and more! I also know how it will work for him…
