…If I Surrender to Your Will

Christopher is struggling in his spiritual relationship with God. He is angry about what has happened to him and doesn’t feel like anything is working in his life today.

Yet, day by day, Christopher continues to get new insights about things that are happening in his life. He shares with me specific understanding about what God is doing to, for and through him. He is growing and learning a lot about God and himself. But, Christopher is just not able to let go of things that have happened in the past – and, unfortunately, that holds him back today.

The situation in which Christopher finds himself embroiled reminds me of a line from the Serenity Prayer: TRUSTING that You will make all things right if I SURRENDER to Your will. He sees and understands God’s working in his life, but he is just not ready to let God be God and do what He wants (and knows is best!). I think Christopher is struggling with the S word more than the T word these days.

Trust and surrender are important and related concepts. I don’t think the order matters, but we do desperately need to practice both.
