Proverb for the Day 18:24 — It’s What Good Friday Is All About!

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

While the first part of this verse has been translated differently (“a man that has friends must show himself friendly”), the focus is still on friends. In our translation, the consequence of having “unreliable friends” is coming “to ruin.”

Admittedly, it might be said that “unreliable friends” are hardly true friends, at all. But we all have people like this in our lives and, if we consider them true friends, it probably says more about who we are than about who they are.

The second part of the verse is rather famous – “there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Friends chose to have a relationship with us, but there is something intrinsic about family that calls them to stand with us through the most amazing stuff.

The second part of this verse has often been applied to Jesus as such a special person in our lives. He is that one-of-a-kind Friend for any and all who will accept Him as He is and receive what He has already done for us. Today is Good Friday 2014 and that’s what it’s all about.

Even better, it’s Friday…and Easter Sunday’s coming!
