Proverb for the Day 4:8 — She’ll Take Good Care Of You!

Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.

This chapter begins with Solomon is telling his sons what his father, David, told him (:1-9) – appreciate Wisdom like you’d appreciate a good woman. In this verse, he says, that includes “esteem her” and “embrace her.”

“Esteem her” is an attitude of appreciation for Wisdom. It’s the idea of consciously setting her up high – like putting her on a pedestal. To “embrace” her has more the idea of a physical act – getting and staying close to her.

Of course, it may not be easy to embrace her while she’s up there on that pedestal (!), but it does suggest a strong commitment to a meaningful relationship with Wisdom.

The result of such involvement is that “she will exalt” and “will honor you.” Actively going after a relation with Wisdom, will always be to our benefit. She will hook us up, in all the appropriate ways!

In Proverbs, we define Wisdom as “seeing life from God’s point of view.” If that is an accurate definition, it is simple to understand how such a close and meaningful relationship will really pay off in our lives.

There is real supernatural empowerment for us as we go through this life. It is totally accessible and available. We simply need to choose to go for it.
