Proverb for the Day 3:32 — We Choose…God Will Respond!

For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence.

This wise saying is focused on the LORD and His dealings with us…in particular, with two of us — “the perverse” and “the upright.” Regular characters in Proverbs, this wise saying offers the kind of insight we might expect.

“The LORD detests the perverse” is strong language. But it’s important that we understand it.

God hates “perversity” — when we get “crooked” or “devious” in our thinking. It comes from a word meaning “departed.”

We can wander off the path (“depart”), either by accident or on purpose. Either way, we wind up in the same place and that way of thinking and acting is simply unacceptable to Him.

But the LORD also “takes the upright into His confidence.” Talk about opposites!

“The upright” are those whose thinking is “straight,” “level” or “smooth.” With them, God offers deeper truths and insights about Himself, themselves and life in general.

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable question to ask ourselves — or each other — now and then…On which side of this equation do you want to find yourself today?
